‘Equinox’ is a term coined for that time of the year when the daytime & the nighttime are roughly of the same duration. This happens twice annually; 20-21 March & 22-23 September. At this time the Earth’s axis is not tilted & is at right angle to Sun-Earth line. Hence, the Earth’s equator is in line with the center of the Sun’s disk. In Northern Hemisphere march equinox is the ‘Spring Equinox’ & in Southern Hemisphere it is time for an ‘Autumnal Equinox’. The energies of the equinox last for three to four days.

Now the question arises, what is the importance of an equinox ? It signifies balance. Sun, the symbol of masculine energy, sheds equal amount of light on both the hemispheres. Earth, the representation of feminine power, is receptive towards the glorious light. The masculine & the feminine are at par in the atmosphere. The nature is especially supportive so, with little effort & attention we can balance these energies within ourselves.

This year’s March Equinox is special because it coincides with the full moon in Aries & this is happening after 23 years. Aries is a sign of leadership, innovation, dedication, confidence, courage & passion. Two major events have clubbed to amplify each other’s glory. This time calls upon you to act. Daydreaming & planning done in the past needs to be brought to light. Accept advice, follow instructions but at the same time thrive with conviction & will power. Receive help & also be responsible. The day after this equinox i.e 22 March, 2023 marks the advent of Lunar New Year. Hindu Lunar Year begins by honouring Devi or Divine Feminine (Navratri). Therefore, the energies of this auspicious time will cocoon us longer than usual. You can let go & receive at the same time. The energies of the Equinox are non-partial & supportive. It is the best day to awaken the divine within you. It is time to chant & manifest ‘Soham’. ~Poonam
