“Pema” by: Poonam

This marvellous wooden wallhanging is made by Pema, an artisan in Bhutan. Unlike others, he creates not with his hands but with his feet, coz he suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Queen of Bhutan adopted him when he was a kid & along with basic education got him trained in making wooden artefacts. 

We were feeling sorry for his physical condition however, at the same time, we were fascinated by his skills. The whole place was filled with his astounding creations. We asked for his autograph which he happily gave on the back of the piece that we bought.

Despite his inabilities, Pema was jovial & energetic. He greeted us with a broad smile & even waved us ‘Good Bye’ with his ‘talented feet’ !

You can meet Pema at ‘National Folk Heritage Museum, Thimphu, Bhutan’. Do give him my regards on meeting him! ~Poonam
